The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro beat out the Audi TT, BMW 7 Series, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes AMG GT S and Toyota Mirai to be named Car of the Year by Motor Trend. Nine judges evaluated the cars in six different categories that include design, efficiency, engineering excellence, performance of intended function, safety and value.

"Our 2016 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro, is one of the finest driving vehicles in the world at any price though its price is well within reach of the average consumer," Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh said in a press release.

The sixth generation Camaro is available with a new turbocharged 275-horsepower four-cylinder engine, a sporty and fuel-efficient 335-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine and a powerful 455-horsepower V-8 engine SS. The two larger engines are equipped with induction-noise resonators and offer dual-mode exhausts that can be set to stealth for drivers living in a populated neighborhood.

The 2016 version of the Camaro's exterior design looks like the fifth-gen version from afar, but when seen closely, it has a tighter body that looks leaner and more athletic, per Car and Driver. There are 10 exterior colors available such as black, blue velvet, bright yellow, nightfall gray and summit white.

The interior color has two options, jet black and medium ash gray, as reported by Edmunds. Its interior features include six speakers, a satellite radio with stereo, USB connection, Apple Car Play and 4G LTE Wi-Fi. Other comfort features include climate control, dual vanity mirrors, a leather steering wheel and sun sensor.

The sixth-gen Camaro's convenience has also improved with audio and cruise control on the steering wheel, an electric power steering and a rear view camera. If subscribed to OnStar, Hands-Free Calling, Roadside Assistance, Concierge Service, Destination Download and Destination Guidance or the Turn-by-Turn Navigation are all available.

As for its safety features, the 2016 Camaro have front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, an anti-theft alarm system, emergency braking assist, tire pressure monitoring, post-collision safety system with stability and traction control and a stolen vehicle tracking system.

The new Camaro is 200-pound lighter compared to its predecessor, with the V8 at 3,908 pounds and the V6 at 3,461 pounds with an automatic transmission. It is due to the so-called all-new architecture for the whole car and lightweight aluminum used on the wheel options.

The weight loss is described as a great improvement due to the 4-second acceleration from 0-60 mph and going 12.4 seconds in a quarter mile. The 275-hp turbo is available for $27,000, the 335 horsepower for $28,500 and the 455-hp for $37,500.
