As Samsung Galaxy S4 users make the transition to the new Samsung Galaxy S5, people with the new phone will also be on the lookout for new applications. On the other hand, Apple's iOS users also might want to find new applications to try out as we gear up for the next iPhone release, which is slated to come at some point during the summertime.

Today we'll take a look at some of the freshest apps in the Google Play app store and the Apple store for users to check out regardless of whether or not you have a Samsung Galaxy or an iPhone.

Feel free to chime in with your comments about these applications and whether there are other apps that you think belong on the list.

1.   MLB 2014 At-Bat: This app has been around for a while, but the new update basically make it a brand new application -- just in time for opening day. As your favorite teams get their season underway this week, get this free app to follow along with the latest updates and scores. You can pay for special features, which you can read about on the app stores.

2.   Runtastic PRO GPS Running, Walking: One of the main rumors about future iOS operating systems is that we will see significant improvements when it comes to GPS technology. Considering that this is a brand new app and has had very good reviews so far, it seems like its worth a try. Keep in mind, however, that it does cost $4.99. According to the app's description, it tracks time, distance, speed, elevation changes, calories, and even more.

3.   Autorap by Smule: This app is basically exactly what you would think it would be by looking at the title of it. The app takes your voice and transforms it into music by adding in beats from famous performers. It also adds in autotunes and much more.
