Saturday’s chance to win big money playing Powerball is here.

The grand prize is currently at $100 million, with a cash value of $61.3 million.

Last Wednesday’s winning numbers were 16, 29, 53, 58, and 69, and the Powerball was 21. There were 505,422 regular  winners, and $3,116,254 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 293 million. The odds of simply doubling your money on a $2 ticket are 1 in 38.

As the North Carolina Educational Lottery reports, Jacque Kendrick, a food server from the city of New London, recently won $2 million.

Although Kendrick always made a habit of playing Powerball, she never expected to really win anything.

After her daughter emailed her a news story about the $2 million Nov. 18 drawing, the gravity of her new financial situation sunk in. “I dropped to my knees, and started thanking the Good Lord,” she said, “That’s exactly how it was.”

As Kendrick chose to purchase a $3 Power Play ticket, the initial $1 million she was coming into was doubled. After taxes Kendrick received $1,385,000, which she and her husband plan to save, invest and then give to their daughters to help them out.

Kendrick describes her family’s economic situation as slightly easier than living a hand-to-mouth existence. “We’re not poor, but we work for everything we’ve got,” she said, “And we’ve worked hard. We need to be set, whenever we are old and retired.”

According to Forbes, Kendrick has the right idea about what to do with her Powerball money.

Invest prudently was one of the sensible bits of advice offered to lottery winners in an article about what new lottery winners should do with their money. Aside from this, winners were advised to live within a budget, plan charitable gifts, and take steps to protect their assets.
