When “The Blacklist” returns from its winter hiatus in January, Liz (Megan Boone) may find herself at the mercy of the dreaded Cabal.

A teaser for the upcoming Episode 9 of Season 3, called “The Director,” shows that now that Liz is in FBI custody, she is more vulnerable than ever.

“The Cabal will come for her,” Red (James Spader) says. “If they reach her, it will be the last time you ever see Elizabeth again.”

Since every aspect of the series has, this season, been centered around Liz’s status as a fugitive, “The Blacklist” will be coming back to world of new mystery and unexplored dangers.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp discussed the rogue agent’s mental state.

“We’ve had a lot of fun dealing with Liz being on the run, and her being drawn into being more like Red and having to act as a criminal, in some ways, as she is now,” he said, adding her capture has left the ex agent at risk.

“It’s a race against the clock for Red to enact whatever his plan is that he’s been working on for the last eight episodes,” Bokenkamp said. “It’s time for things to fall together, and that is going to be fun.”

Red, a master criminal who is working to take down a series of bad guys that have reached the category of super villain, has proven he always has the perfect strategy for every scenario that comes his way.

Bokenkamp said he feels fans will appreciate what Red has up his sleeve in the next episode.

“He’s got a great plan that people are really going to dig seeing how all this comes together,” Bokenkamp said. “His plan is less about just her safety, and more about leveling the playing field.”

“The Blacklist” returns to NBC on Jan. 7, 2016, at 9 p.m. E.
