Spoiler Alert: Don't read this if you're still waiting to watch the finale!

The finale episode of How I Met Your Mother got varied reactions. Spoiler theories had been coming out for weeks before the last episode. Some concluded that the final episode would see Ted having Alzheimer's disease or the mother's death; however, none of these happened.

The last episode revealed that Robin and Barney had a divorce. After Ted finished telling his kids the story of how he met their mother, his children told him that they know how much he loves their Aunt Robin. His children urged him to call Robin but Ted decided to go to her apartment instead. He was holding a blue horn when Robin opened the window, which alluded to an episode of a past storyline in which they dated. And that was how How I Met Your Mother ended.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the creators of How I Met Your Mother, are already planning a spin-off titled How I Met Your Dad with Greta Gerwig playing Sally, the main character. Aside from being the lead actor, Gerwig will also write for the spin off and function as a producer. Thomas and Bays will write the first episode with Los Angeles as the setting. New York will replace LA if the series has a big enough following.
