There is no shortage of transformations in the action film arena now that "The Expendables" is being developed for a Fox TV series event.

According to Deadline, the action-hero franchise that stars old and new actors from the genre will be bringing its unique concept to the TV arena.

The film franchise explored the idea of super-sizing the action film genre by rounding up a super team of past and present action heroes like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Mel Gibson, Ronda Rousey and Chuck Norris.

Although details for the project are scarce at the moment, the project could use the same unique formula for past and present stars of the TV arena, A good bet would be on stars like Tom Selleck ("Magnum P.I."), Kiefer Sutherland ("24"), Lucy Lawless ("Xena," "Ash vs Evil Dead"), Bruce Campbell ("Ash vs Evil Dead"), Mr. T ("The A-Team") and even Scott Bakula ("Quantum Leap").

The film franchise has already been met with enormous success and there have been additions to various films with other big name stars, including "Stone Cold" Steve Austin of the WWE.

The basic concept for the film version of the franchise has been a team of mercenaries led by Stallone, who also created the franchise, that are sent to do the most perilous jobs without official sanction from any government entity. At least that is how it started, but there have been variations to that rule.

They take on missions not one of the characters can do alone. They need the super-sized skills of the entire group, leading them all to be the action stars of the films.

The TV series is currently in development by Fox and has been billed as an event, which seems to reflect something of a miniseries that networks have been well known to do from time-to-time.
