Chris Brown was forced to cancel his tour in Australia and New Zealand after he was denied a visa by immigration authorities.

The 26-year-old "Look at Me Now" singer's Australian tour has been at risk of being terminated since September, when immigration officials said they would issue a "notice of intention to consider refusal" due to Brown's 2009 assault against his then-girlfriend Rihanna, according to Rolling Stone.

"Mr. Brown and the promoters both remain positive that the tour will take place in the near future," promoters of Brown's five-day tour said in a statement. "Mr. Brown wishes to express his deepest gratitude to the fans for their support."

Several feminist groups, along with former Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash, strongly opposed the singer's entrance into the country to play the shows, and therefore convinced officials to call his visa status into question.

"People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you: 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia,'" Cash, now Australia's Minister for Women, said recently, ABC News reports.

Brown had previously been admitted into the country in April 2011 to perform concert dates, which were part of his F.A.M.E. Tour.

In addition to Brown, Australia and New Zealand closed their borders to Odd Future in February 2014. Officials deemed that the rap group was "a potential threat to public order and the public interest for several reasons, including incidents at past performances in which they have incited violence."

Brown is gearing up to release his seventh studio album, "Royalty," on Friday, Dec. 18. So far, the album, which is named after Brown's daughter, has produced the singles "Liquor," "Zero," "Back to Sleep" and "Fine by Me."
