The next installment in the Super Smash Bros. series is finally being finished and will be up for release later this year. Fans have waited for a long time for the sequel game in the hit brawler series to be released. The new game will be available on more than one Nintendo console. There will be versions released for both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U consoles. Namco Bandai and Sora Ltd. worked behind the scenes to develop these games. It is the first time that a Smash Bros. game will be available on a handheld device.

In 2011 it was announced that the game was coming up for development. In February 2012, an announcement was made stating that the development of the fourth game had already started. However, when the game was still not released after some time many fans became disappointed. Now the game is finally coming out and the surprise was that it will be available for multiple next generation Nintendo gaming consoles.

There are a few differences between the games on Wii U and 3DS. The 3DS version makes use of flatter shading and optional black outlines in order to make the characters more visible from afar. The available stages will also vary depending on the system. The Wii U version is comprised of stages based on the console games, while the 3DS version is based on the history of handheld games. It was also mentioned that a cross-platform gameplay won't be available. However, the customized characters from the 3DS version may be imported to the Wii U version. At this stage, very little information has been released as to how the "character customization" will work. The only information available is that it will not be created using different costumes and won't be unlocked by doing repetitive tasks. There are a lot of other exciting differences that can be expected as soon as gamers have started checking out both consoles. According to the creators of the game, there are no plans to implement downloadable content or to have a touch screen control for the characters.
