It's still a long way before the highly anticipated "Star Wars" spinoff premieres in 2018. Filming will kick off in 2017, but there are already numerous reports speculating as to who will be playing the young Han Solo.

The "Star Wars" spinoff film will be released after "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premieres on Dec. 18. However, even though 2018 is a long time from today, there are already speculations that young actors like Ansel Elgort, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Dave Franco might have auditioned for the role that Harrison Ford used to play.

Ford will, of course, reprise his role in J.J. Abrams' new sequel "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," E! News reports, but there are already some young actors being considered to possibly play the role. According to Hollywood Reporter, a total of 2,500 actors sent videotapes to audition for Ford's role as Han Solo.

And as to who might be the scoundrel to play the Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed film? The Hollywood Reporter speculates that "Divergent" star Elgort might be the one considered. Not only does he look like Ford during his younger years when he played the role at 35 years old, he also has sarcasm that is necessary for the role, MTV reports.

Taylor-Johnson and Franco are also rumored to have auditioned for the role. "Gossip Girl" star Ed Westwick, who played Chuck Bass in the series, may also be considered, per Hollywood Reporter, since casting directors are not only focusing on American actors.

Canadian "Hemlock Grove" star Landon Liboiron is also reportedly being considered along with Westwick. The publication further claims that the necessary attributes for the male actor include similarities with Ford, being humorous and ability to handle action scenes.

Logan Lerman ("Fury"), Jack Reynor ("Transformers: Age of Extinction"), Colton Haynes ("Teen Wolf") and Max Thieriot ("Bates Motel") are also reportedly being considered.

Furthermore, MTV speculates that "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" stars Sam Claflin, who played Finnick in the film series, and Liam Hemsworth, who played Gale, might have also auditioned and be slated for the role, although the two look nothing like Ford.

The new Disney and Lucasfilm "Star Wars" spinoff will start shooting by January 2017 and is expected to hit theaters on May 25, 2018, per The Hollywood Reporter.
