FIFA World Cup: As the World Celebrates, Brazilians Shine Spotlight on Social Issues They Want Addressed

As the world celebrates the World Cup, Brazilian protesters hope to shine a light on the issues that have plagued the nation after taxpayers had to cough up nearly $11 billion in over-run costs to host the quadrennial soccer tournament. While many of the protests have been peaceful, the demonstration after Thursday's England-Uruguay game got ugly, as Black Bloc members destroyed luxury cars and banking institutes in Sao Paulo.

The 2014 World Cup will place a tremendous amount of pressure on a number of major stars, among those is Argentina's Lionel Messi. Considered the best player in the world, Messi is often omitted from the conversation about whether or not he is the greatest soccer player of all time, and faces a similar situation that Diego Armando Maradona faced in the 1986 FIFA World Cup held in Mexico.

Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull 2014: Stars To Perform At World Cup

The 2014 World Cup will broadcast the soon-to-be hit single "We Are One (Ole Ola)," a collaborative effort featuring Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian artist Claudia Leitte, as its official anthem. Lopez, Leitte and Pitbull are also scheduled to perform that song at the opening ceremony in Brazil, which will take place at the Arena de Sao Paulo on June 12th. FIFA made the announcement on Thursday in a press release.
