There is now reason to believe that broadcast network CBS is about to pull the plug on another one of their powerhouse thriller dramas, "Person of Interest." Executive producer J.J. Abrams recently told reporters that he does not believe that the show will be airing after this season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Abrams spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour last weekend. The EP said that he does not believe the show will be continuing on after this upcoming season, which is about to air on CBS.

Although the show has developed a large cult following over the years, it has failed to meet the network's expectations. There has long been talk about its possible cancellation. But with the news coming directly from EP Abrams, there is good reason to believe that the rumor will come to fruition this time.

"My guess is it is the final season," Abrams told the TCA reporters. "The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued."

Abrams also praised the work that Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman had done with the show over the years, and he spoke about what they created for the coming season. He did seem to give his approval for the episodes that are left and spoke of the series as a powerhouse.

"Again, to have a show that goes on as many years as that has, it's very hard to complain," Abrams said. "It's a miracle to get a show on the air and to have it last that long is something that we should just be grateful for. But I do love that show and I would've loved to see that continue."

Ultimately, the fate of the show rests in the hands of CBS. The network has the final say on whether the axe comes down. It is a very telling sign from the network that they have not even given Season 5 a premiere date yet, let alone pushed it back from a full season run to a midseason premiere.
