Finally some new information has come out about "Homeland" Season 4. During an Academy of Television Arts & Sciences panel discussion in Los Angeles on Friday, May 2, "Homeland" was the star. The conversation featured some of the show's castmembers as well as creator/showrunner Alex Gansa.

A few interesting topics were discussed, chief among them Brody's role in future episodes. The panel finally put to rest all the rumors and gossip swirling around the potential scenario of bringing Nicholas Brody back from the dead type. As you may remember in Season 3's emotionally -harged finale, Iranian thugs intercepted Brody and strung him up for all the world to see.

Still some rumor sites were wondering whether Brody would appear in future episodes, perhaps in flashbacks. That's yet to be seen. But regardless of whether or not that happens, Brody's absence will be felt throughout the fourth season. Carrie Mathison is carrying their child after all.

The TV Panel discussion revealed that Brody has been on the chopping block since day one.

"Truthfully, we've been trying to get rid of the guy since Season 1," Gansa explained to the press.

Zap2it described Gansa's tone as "partially joking," which means that the writing team was pretty serious about axing him for quite a long time. Lucky they didn't, or actor Damian Lewis may've never picked up an Emmy for his performance as would-be terrorist Brody.

Claire Danes, who plays Mathison on the hit series, acknowledged that Brody's character had reached a crossroads. His continued journey couldn't be justified even in the fake TV world.

"Realistically, Brody was broken in a way he couldn't be mended," the actress exclaimed. "What was his place in society?"

Zap2it also added that Brody's character would have been selected for political asylum in Iran if he was kept alive.

What do you think about killing off Brody for good? Do you think Gansa and the writers made a solid choice or will Brody's removal be too hard to overcome for you? Let us know in the comments section below.
