Get ready for an all new season of “Chicago P.D.” when the show returns to NBC in September, with a possible perfect romance story and Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) going on a downward spiral.

Voight Loses it

In the “Chicago P.D.” Season 4 finale, Voight ran after the man who killed his son. When Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) caught on to him, she saw what appeared to be him burying his son’s killer.

Show runners say Voight will have a hard time adjusting to the loss of his son. During his grieving process, he will make poor choices which might cost him a possible promotion as the head of intelligence.

Will Lindsay Turn on Voight?

Meanwhile, Lindsay will battle with what to do about Voight. At the end of the season finale, he told her to flee the scene so she would not be a witness. But if he killed his son’s killer, that would make Lindsay an accessory to murder if she does not report him.

Will Lindsay protect the man she looks up to? If she keeps quiet and others find out, she can lose everything she worked so hard for.

Lindsay and Halstead

In this time of need, Lindsay will turn to her boyfriend Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Sofer) for guidance.

“Jay is really the one person that she has in the world that she can trust who is safe,” Bush tells Entertainment Weekly. “That finale moment with Voight is a reminder that while Voight has been a stabilizing factor in her life, at this moment he is not stable, he’s not a person who is going to bring any safety in her world.”

The couple is taking their relationship to the next level in “Chicago P.D.” Season 4. They will finally move in together and see what it is really like to depend on one another.

Lindsay’s Situation with Voight

It is also good for Lindsay to have someone with a leveled head when she decides what to do about Voight’s possible vigilantism.

“[Voight’s] a father figure to her,” Soffer tells TVGuide. “So she’s going to try to take care of him…What’s really important for Halstead is making sure that Lindsay doesn’t end up in jail, Lindsay doesn’t end up going down with Voight.”

Will Halstead be the one to tell on Voight, in order to keep his girlfriend out of harm’s way? Or will Lindsay make that call?

After losing her brother and now someone who is like a father figure to her, Lindsay will search for that male role in her life through Halstead.

“Chicago P.D.” Season 4 premieres on NBC Wednesday Sept. 21.
