"Trolls 2" will be happening with Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake reprising their roles as Poppy and Branch respectively. The film is planned to be released on April 10, 2020 according to Universal DreamWorks Animation.

"Trolls" gathered up to $340 million in movie ticket sales from their $120 million budget when it hit theaters. The planned sequel "Trolls 2" has been greenlit following the warm reception its predecessor received. Justin Timberlake's song "Can't Stop The Feeling" for the "Trolls" movie even garnered an Oscar nomination. He also sang the song as the opening act for the awards ceremony.

ComicBook reports that "Trolls 2" is officially in the works. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake will be in the ride but "Trolls" director Mike Mitchell is not confirmed to direct the sequel. In addition to the movie ticket sales it received, "Trolls" has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray with good sales as well.

It is not yet known if Mike Mitchell will be part of "Trolls 2." The outlet adds that the director was asked to be part of "The Lego Movie 2" which will be released in 2019.

According to CinemaBlend, "Trolls" was a popular brand of dolls in the 60s. The first film revealed that these small creatures are always happy by the way they always sing and dance all day. The "Trolls" are threatened by unhappy creatures known as Bergens who eat the kin of Anna Kendrick's and Justin Timberlake's characters after they realize that devouring them makes them momentarily happy.

Chaos ensues as the Bergens captures some "Trolls" but Anna Kendrick's Princess Poppy and Justin Timberlake's Branch comes in to save their kidnapped friends. Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to distribute "Trolls 2" after acquiring DreamWorks Animation Studios in 2016.
