California Governor Gavin Newsom is continuing his attacks on red conservative states and is targeting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis this time.

The California governor will be running ads in Florida to call for Floridians to join the fight against Republican leaders who have imposed restrictions on their freedoms. The two are rising stars in their own respective parties, and both are widely seen as the future of American politics.

According to CNN, Newsom, a less-controversial and more progressive governor, represents what more liberal states in the U.S. are, as the ever-blue California touts its liberal policies and freedoms.

On the other hand, Ron DeSantis has leaned ever more to the right, representing a Florida that is continuing to become redder instead of being a swing state. He has certainly raised eyebrows as he banned books that might suggest racism and banned critical race theory in schools.

California Governor Gavin Newsom Rewards Companies That Move From States With Restrictive Abortion Laws

The move is in reaction to the Supreme Court's decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision which grants that abortion is a right and states can decide whether it will be illegal or not.

Florida and Texas have positioned themselves in the more anti-abortion camp and are looking into restricting abortion rights within their state.

According to MSN, Newsom, a former mayor of San Francisco, has revealed that California, the fifth biggest economy in the world, will give greater consideration to tax credit awards to companies that moved from states with restrictive abortion and LGBTQ+ rights laws.

This comes as companies are moving their headquarters from California to less-tax restrictive states like Texas. Gavin Newsom has been attacking the leadership of these states through social media and is now about to air ads attacking their policies through ads on TV.

California's Gavin Newsom Looking to Counter Rise of Florida Governor Ron Desantis

Ron DeSantis has been rising in the Republican ranks, embracing the Donald Trump base but also positioning himself as a less-unhinged alternative to the former president.

By approving laws that are restrictive to voter rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and women's rights, he has made himself more popular among conservatives.

With the ad, Gavin Newsom plans to counter this rise. He first gave the video of his ad in Florida to CNN before paying $105,000 to Fox News to air the ad on July 4.

CNN described it as a "classic campaign slot" mixed with the flair of a business investment pitch and California tourism commercials.

The ad attacked DeSantis's actions to ban books and restrict voting, speech, and access to abortion. Gavin then urged the people of Florida to join the fight or join them in California.

Newsom's re-election campaign paid for it, but the California governor said it was "not the first ad of the 2024, or even the 2028, presidential race." He added that it was an ad for Democrats to reclaim their sense of identity and combat Trumpism.
