An abandoned vehicle was discovered in the violence-wracked city of Celaya in Mexico and five young men were discovered inside, all of them already dead by the time the discovery was made.

According to Mexico News Daily, the abandoned car was discovered last Sunday on a dirt road near the Celaya-Salvatierra campus of the University of Guanajuato. However, the five dead students discovered inside the vehicle were not students of the school but were rather from the Universidad Latina de México, which is also located in Celaya.

Residents from the Crespo neighborhood in Celaya were the ones who made the gruesome discovery before reporting it to authorities. It was the Mexico National Guard who arrived at the scene and found that all five students suffered gunshot wounds to their heads.

Authorities also revealed that there were other signs of violence in their bodies and that the victims were aged 25 to 30. Their bodies were soon taken to a government morgue in Guanajuato, with an investigation into their deaths being launched by the Guanajuato Attorney General's Office (FGE), which soon vowed to find and arrest the suspects responsible for the students' heinous murder.

The local Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel has been in control of the area for a long time, However, the infamous Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has been trying to make a foothold in the state and muscling in on Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel territory. This resulted in gang warfare and violence, with civilians and police often getting caught up in the crossfire.
