Samsung Electronics has finally unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Gear in Berlin - their share in the smartwatch industry.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is a rather bulky smartwatch which is aimed at being paired with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It can also be used with other Samsung devices like the new Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, however, Engadget says that the S4 should first get an Android 4.3 update before the pair-up.

The highlight of the smartwatch includes the 320 x 320 pixel AMOLED touch screen which measures 1.63 inches. Users can navigate through their smartwatch through swiping - much like any other touch screen device.

At the right side of the screen is a button which allows users to go back to the home screen with a single press. Pressing the button twice will activate the S voice function. Three presses will activate the "safety assistance" feature which notifies a contact of an emergency through a message revealing your location.

The device is powered by an 800 MHz processor and a 315 mAh battery which will last users for about 10 hours. Charging the device is done through five round metal leads at the back of the smartwatch connected to a plastic charging dock.

The 1.9-megapixel camera allows users to take photos with its paired application, the "Memographer." Video recordings are also possible though limited to 10-second durations of 720p, 640 x 640 or VGA resolution with sound. This is partly due to the limited 4GB storage of the device.

Calls can also be made from the Samsung Galaxy Gear through a built-in dialer, a speaker and a pair of microphones on the device. Incoming calls from your Galaxy Note 3 or other compatible Samsung device can also be answered using the smartwatch. Users who would rather not take the call can simply cover the smartwatch screen to silence it.

Launching on T-Mobile on October 2 for $299.99, the Samsung Galaxy Gear comes in several colors including Rose Gold, Mocha Gray, Jet Black, Oatmeal, Wild Orange and Lime Green. ABC News also says that the smartwatch might be bundled with the Galaxy Note 3 at Verizon for $599.99 according to a leaked internal document.
