FOX's "Gotham" tv show premiered on Sept. 22, 2014, and fans of Batman are already hooked on the new crime drama.

Developed by Bruno Heller and executively produced by Danny Cannon, the characters of "Gotham" are based on the individuals that appear in DC Comic's "Batman" franchise. Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) will be frontrunners in the series.

Also, Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), Poison Ivy/Ivy Pepper (Clare Foley) and Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) appear in the series, and viewers learn their origin stories within the 16-episode first season. Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, Hugo Strange, Harvey Dent and Mr. Freeze will also have their time to shine in the fresh drama.

In the series premiere, rookie detective James Gordon is paired with the crooked Detective Harvey Bullock. The men are assigned to the high-profile murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne, a wealthy couple shot down in front of their son, Bruce. Gordon makes a promise to young Bruce that he'll find the mysterious killer, and actively pursues the offender, crossing paths with mobstress Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), who quietly works with the police.

Bullock kills the man believed to have killed the Waynes, Mario Pepper. Soon after, Gordon discovers that Pepper was framed, and he discovers that the police department is owned by a mafioso by the name of Carmine Falcone (John Doman).

Gordon, a good cop, struggles with being a cog in a corrupt system, but he has to "prove that he's with the program" by killing the Penguin, who snitched on Fish Mooney earlier in the episode. He pretends to do this; instead throwing the Penguin in the water. This proves to be a potential mistake as the Penguin proceeds to murder several people during the pursuit for survival and power.

Meanwhile, Gordon develops a relationship with a Bruce Wayne, which continues into the second episode, "Selina Kyle." During the episode, Gordon and Bullock investigate the mysterious abduction of homeless youths, who are collected and handed off to a mysterious person, Dollmaker, for unknown reasons.

After a conversation, Gordon's girlfriend leaks information about the abductions to the media, which yields positive results. The corrupt police department then gives Gordon the green light to pursue the abductors. Gordon and Bullock find the culprits and stop them before a bus-load of 30 children, including the future Catwoman, is sent to an unknown place in a shipping container.

There's also a play for power happening within Gotham between Falcone and Mooney, but they come to "an agreement" after Falcone pays Mooney an intimidating visit. Also, Bruce Wayne tries to overcome his fears as Penguin prepares to return to Gotham and conquer the entire city.

The initial episodes of the series prove that the series could be a successful, episodic adventure. The all-star cast and the well thought-out storyline could be the recipe for longevity. Gotham airs Mondays @8pm on Fox. Check out a preview of the new series below:
