Scott Macintyre, a Season 8 "American Idol" contestant who is legally blind, is attempting to overcome another obstacle in his life: He is in dire need of another kidney transplant.

People reports, Macintyre was diagnosed with kidney failure in his late teens and underwent his first kidney transplant at the age of 22, prior to his appearance on "American Idol." Shortly after his successful kidney transplant, Macintyre went on to compete on "American Idol" and marry his wife, Christina.

But now that seven years have passed since his first transplant, Macintyre says he is in need of another transplant or else he will be forced to undergo dialysis and miss out on his currently booming music career.

"I had to go on dialysis while I was waiting to see if I got my kidney the first time around," he said. "Going on dialysis would change a lot about what I am able to do. I would not be able to perform or work, really, until a kidney was found. Dialysis is life-preserving, but it is a bad quality of life."

Macintyre also spoke with TMZ recently and explained that he has six months left to find a kidney match before he is forced to go through dialysis for the second time around.

Those who are willing to donate their kidney and wish see if they are a match for Macintyre can enroll in the same kidney transplant program that Macintyre is enrolled in at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, says RadarOnline.

Though Macintyre's deadline for a kidney transplant is rapidly approaching, he still has faith that it will all work out.

"Many times when I have been dealing with uncertainty and change in my life, I hold on to hope in the midst of a circumstance that can seem hopeless," he told People. "I'm a Christian, so that hope for me many times has been my faith in God. I look at God as a lighthouse."
