Fun Star Wars fact of the day: Ewoks were originally supposed to be Wookiees, and vice versa (hence the similarity of their names). Nevertheless, today, we look back on two not-quite-canon films that, unlike the Star Wars Holiday Special, George Lucas actually claims as part and parcel of the Star Wars franchise.

The first of the so-called Ewoks Adventures is called Caravan of Courage (actually, during its original release, it was simply called The Ewok Adventure; when it was released on VHS and, later, DVD, it was renamed Star Wars: Ewok Adventures - Caravan of Courage.). Released in 1984 on television in the United States, and theatrically in Europe, in 1984, Caravan of Courage took place in the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The film focuses on the struggles of a brother and sister, stranded on the forest moon of Endor, in locating their parents, who have been kidnapped by a monster known as the Gorax. George Lucas wrote the screenplay, and Burl Ives (!!!!) narrated the film.

The second of the so-called Ewoks Adventures was called Ewoks: The Battle for Endor at the time of its release, and later released on home videos as Star Wars: Ewok Adventures - The Battle for Endor. Released in 1985, the made-for-TV movie set in the Star Wars galaxy was co-written and directed by Jim and Ken Wheat who wrote the screenplay, with George Lucas writing the story. A sequel to Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, it focuses on Cindel Towani, the little girl from the first film, who, after being orphaned, joins the Ewoks in protecting their village and defeating the evil marauders who have taken control of the Endor moon. Like the first Ewok adventure, it also takes place in the period of time between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
