It wasn't the rough beginnings that brought the character of Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) into the good graces of fans who have long admired him on "The Walking Dead." Rather it was his rough character transformation that gave him the staying power that has even led fans to social media promising a riot if Daryl dies, according to an article on io9.

"I think he wears his heart on his sleeve," Reedus told io9 about his character. "I don't think he's trying to trick you or fool you. I think he has a certain amount of loyalty to him. He would never cross boundaries with that."

This is something that fans have long sought for his character. Even fans of the original series of comic books have taken to Dixon, whose character was never in the comic book series.

"I like having the door open wide. It's fun. I like it. I'm not the only character on the show that's not from the comic book, though," Reedus said about the possibility that his character could be killed off at any moment.

There have been several shows on television where the threat of a character getting killed off was an ever-present scenario. A few to name would be "The Sopranos," "The Wire," "Six Feet Under" and just about any cop drama on television.

The people who play those characters are just as in the dark as fans are. The scripts for each episode are closely guarded secrets, and for the actors, the expiration of their character usually involves a special trip to meet with an executive producer or a showrunner. A "sit-down" style of a "closed door" meeting.

Reedus, who will be starring in a film that is being produced by "TWD" creator Robert Kirkman, recently had one of those scares. But fortunately, it turned out to be about something else.

"When your executive producer and creator calls you and goes, 'Hey, can I talk to you about something?'... I think all of us ['TWD' cast] are fearing that phone call. Because they're going to kill off all of us at some point," Reedus said.

It certainly was nice to know that the meeting was about the film project and not about Daryl's imminent demise. But Reedus's reveal is certainly telling about the fate of everyone on the show.
