PlayStation 4 users will soon need to update their gaming consoles. Sony has recently announced that a new minor update has been made available to the console to fix certain issues.

The announcement was made on the official Twitter account of PlayStation on Wednesday.

"PS4 system software update 2.57 coming soon, it's a minor update that improves stability of some features," the post reads.

Not too many details or patch notes accompanied the announcement and it remains to be seen which specific features the update is targeting to resolve. However, with update 2.57 coming out to fix "stability" concerns, then it's likely that the gaming experience of those using the console will be better after the upgrade.

The announcement of the update came four months since the tech company introduced a major upgrade to its system. The update 2.5 went live in March and it brought new addition and change to the way the console is played.

According to Eurogamer, the update 2.5 arrived with the new Suspend/Resume feature that will place the console on "Rest" mode should a player decide to do something else without quitting the game.

The major update also brought a new back-up option to the PS4 while allowing data from the console to be saved in an external hard drive or a USB stick.

No major upgrades such as the ones mentioned above are expected to arrive with the Patch 2.57. It only has a single patch note that mentions the stability fix.

In fact, according to a post on Playstation Lifestyle, the update is optional and is not a requirement for everyone with the PS4 console.

The patch is only 245MB in size, given that it is only described as a minor fix for the PS4.

Update 2.57 is perhaps one way for Sony to ensure that it retains being the "best gaming console" there is. The current-generation gaming hardware bested the others out in the market in the recent NDP Group sales findings report for the month of June, reported IGN.

By the end of April 2015, Sony has sold more than 22.3 million units and the company aims to sell more before the fiscal year ends.

The company has also recently responded to a campaign launched by the PlayStation community called the "#BetterPSN." The group hopes that the campaign will force Sony executives to further improve the PlayStation Network, noted Game Rant.
