Beyoncé on the cover of Vogue magazine's September issue is a big deal, even without the fact that the singer is making history while at it.

The September cover of any magazine is the most coveted of the year, but add Vogue magazine to that equation and the stakes are higher.

According to The Huffington Post, the cover of the magazine was leaked online, leading Vogue to release the cover and confirm Beyoncé as the cover star on Instagram.

While this is Beyoncé's third Vogue cover -- she previously posed for the March 2013 and the April 2009 covers -- it is only the third September issue with a black female on the cover.

According to Time, Supermodel Naomi Cmapbell graced the September cover in 1989 and actress Halle Berry received the honor in 2010.

The "Flawless" singer, who is dressed in a Marc Jacobs gown on the cover photo, has a reputation for being one of music's biggest divas, but according to Jacobs, for Beyoncé, that doesn't have a negative connotation.

"The word diva is used for so many female performers, and it often means they have reputations for being difficult, but she exudes charm and a lovable quality," Jacob's told Vogue about the star.

With the cover, which was shot by famous Peruvian photographer Mario Testino, the magazine also released a behind-the-scenes video of the star during the photo shoot. They provided a peek on their Instagram page.

"You've seen her as Deena Jones. You've seen her as Honey Bee, and Foxxy Cleopatra, and, of course, Sasha Fierce. Now @beyonce takes on the role of September issue cover star," Vogue captioned the post.

The magazine hits newsstands Aug 25.
