Mbuso Mandela, Nelson Mandela's 24-year-old grandson, has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in a restaurant bathroom, TMZ reports.

The victim's rep recently told the Daily Sun that the incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 7. Mandela allegedly followed the young girl into the restroom, grabbed her, and proceeded to rape her "inside one of the toilets."

The rep also added that immediately following the incident, Nelson Mandela's spouse Winnie took matters into her own hands, allegedly sending her bodyguard to the victim's home to impersonate a cop and stop the victim for pressing charges against Mbuso.

"Instead, Winnie's bodyguard went to the family pretending to be a cop. The father was told there was no need to arrest the suspect but when the father asked to see his badge, he didn't have one. It turned out he had been sent by Winnie," says the rep.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Mbuso was "remanded to custody pending a bail hearing next week."

Several members of the Mandela family including Winnie were present in court on Friday, Aug. 21 to support Mbuso.

On Friday, Mbuso's lawyer Nico Stuart told the court that Mbuso believed the victim was 16 years old, which is the legal age of consent in South Africa, according to the LA Times.

Stuart also asked the court for more time to locate the Indian migrant witness, who allegedly saw the incident occur through a window. The judge complied with Stuart's request, and Mbuso's bail hearing has been postponed until Tuesday.

The LA Times reports that, sadly, rape of minors is common in South Africa. "This week, six boys were accused of raping two 7-year-old girls at a primary school in Vosloorus," The LA Times' Robyn Dixon writes. "In June, four girls ages 7 to 9 were allegedly raped by four older boys at another primary school near Pretoria."
