"Road House," the1989 film that helped catapult late actor Patrick Swayze to worldwide fame, has now been optioned to be remade with Ronda Rousey in the lead, according to Variety.

For UFC champion fighter Rousey, this marks her biggest role to date, following her performance in "The Expendables 3."

The original film featured Swayze as a legendary bouncer for a nightclub who is commissioned to come and work for a town dive bar with a rough crowd. His character travels to Missouri to be the lead bouncer in a place called the Double Deuce, which is a road side dive bar that catered to all elements of life. His character has quite a challenge in front of him, though, given the bad element is backed by a powerful wealthy man who lives in the town and runs an unorthodox crew.

The action takes place in and out of the bar. The fights that begin within the road house eventually emerge on private properties within the town, and the people of the town are completely scared of the ruthless man that seems to rule over them with an iron fist.

Rousey will portray the same character Swayze once played, giving the film a new gender angle.

She originally approached the project with skepticism and respectfully visited with Swayze's widow to gain her permission first, which she obliged her.

Rousey will also be appearing in her own biopic "My Fight/Your Fight" at Paramount, "The Athena Project" at Warner Bros. and the STX action pic "Mile 22."

There has been no word yet when production will begin on "Road House," nor when it will be released.
