Season 2 of "Gotham," dubbed the "rise of the villains," will showcase the endurance of darkness in the Batman origin tale. Fans are already aware of the appearance of the Riddler and the Joker and so many more, but revelations will come in the form of relationships and allegiances as well.

Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), who has made it his mission to overturn evil in the city of Gotham, will have to ask a favor of the city's new king, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor). Now a traffic cop, Gordon has no choice but to turn to the Penguin to get his job back. However, Cobblepot doesn't simply hand out favors, not without gaining something precious in return.

A newly released clip revealed their tense interaction.

"I'm so happy you came to me for help, Jim. The answer's yes, your wish is granted," said Cobblepot in the spot.
"You don't know what it is yet," said Gordon.
"You want Lobe fired and your old job back, no?"
"Yes."
"For a good friend like you, it can be done... if you're sure that's what you want."
"I'm sure."
"May I ask why? Police work in Gotham is such a thankless job."
"Good pension."

The two men continued the hasty conversation, touching on quid pro quo, while the always ambitious Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) sat quietly and cat-like, watching the two men during their exchange. The conversation between the two men concluded with Cobblepot asking Gordon to do a favor for him and handle a business dispute, claiming to elicit Gordon's assistance because he has a persuasive personality. Gordon asked if he's meant to collect a debt for Cobblepot, and Cobblepot responded by saying he demands to know if his friendship with Gordon is a real one.

"Gotham" returns to FOX on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT.
