A virtual reality version of Rock Band 4 will arrive next year using the Oculus Rift. The announcement was made at Thursday's Game Awards 2015.

Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey used the Game Awards 2015 show to announce that Rock Band 4 will have a virtual reality version, PC Mag reports.

The virtual reality experience of Rock Band 4 will put players on stage from the rocker's point of view. Players will see the other band members and the big crowds cheering them on.

The Oculus team released a video getting ready to become rock stars. They enlisted the help of real-life rock band DragonForce to get prepared for the virtual reality experience.

With the Oculus Rift devices were attached to the necks of the guitars. With this placement, the Oculus Rift picks up other members of the band and the crowd.

"Oculus and Harmonix are excited to announce that Rock Band is coming to the Rift in 2016! This brand new made-for-VR game inspired by the original Rock Band, from developer Harmonix, places you on a virtual stage living out the ultimate rock and roll fantasy, only for the Oculus Rift," according to the announcement made at The Game Awards.

Harmonix did not plan to release a PC version of Rock Band because it feared the game would be pirated. However, the Oculus Rift device is designed to work with PCs, so it is very possible that players could be rocking out on their computers in the very near future.

With the Oculus Rift being placed on the neck of the guitar, it is a little confusing on how the virtual reality experience would be seen. Would players need to wear another Rift device on their head or would they just be seeing the images captured from the neck of the guitar?

Many expected Luckey to announce an official release date for the Oculus Rift at the Game Awards show. Instead, Luckey made the announcement about Rock Band. Luckey is maintaining that the Oculus Rift will come out in early 2016.
