Mexico's Oaxaca state has banned the use of public funds in beauty contests after the local Congress labeled such events as "symbolic violence" against women.
Andrea Meza is the third Miss Universe winner from Mexico. She follows the footsteps of Lupita Jones and Ximena Navarette, who brought home the crown in 1991 and 2010, respectively.
