While everyone reserves the right to choose their own labeling, the tension that exists between " identity and reality can be incredibly detrimental to the Latino community," in fact it could be lethal, because men who frequently have sex with other men but reject a homosexual identity, often engage in unsafe risky sex practices.
Misinformation, ignorance, difficulties gaining access, fear of maltreatment, and worries over violations of privacy are some of the obstacles that keep Latinos from visiting healthcare facilities and/or sex and reproductive health clinics.
Poverty and birth rates share a dialogue, particularly for Hispanics. Families with children increasingly fall victim to poverty, an epidemic which mounted during the recession; caused by limited access to jobs, low wages, under-education, and high pregnancy rates. This directly relates to Latinas, as they have the highest rate of teen parenthood compared to other major racial or ethnic group in the country.
