There is undoubtedly more great tragedy in the opera world than comedy, but Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" is one of the best of the latter genre. This Met production and musical team is fascinating in every respect, allowing for an enjoyable evening that races by.
While the Metropolitan Opera season is over and opera will not return to New York until next season, the Latin America opera singers will still tour the world in a number of anticipated productions and premieres this summer.
The Met's revival of "La Cenerentola" is one of the finest displays of riveting Belcanto that the company has put on in the last few years. The performance features a fine blend of tremendous humor as well as complex performances (both vocally and dramatically) from its wondrous cast. The work has five performances remaining, including a final one on the last day of the 2013-14 season. It is the perfect way for the Met to send off what has been an unforgettable season.
