Last month, Sony revealed the news that they were currently working on emulation technologies that would bring PS2 classics to the PS4, and as of this weekend Sony plans on delivering by introducing the system to eight PS2 games.

"PS2 remains the best-selling console of all time, thanks in part to the revolutionary tech built into the box, such as support for the DVD format for games and movies, a powerful graphics processor, and specialized chips for particle effects and physics," Sony President Shuhei Yoshida stated in the PlayStation blog.

The following games are the eight fan favorites that Sony now has available in the PlayStation online store:

  • Dark Cloud - $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto III - $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy - $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri - $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black - $9.99
  • War of the Monsters - $9.99

It has also been announced that "PaRappa the Rapper 2" and "The King of Fighters 2000" will be added later.

To accommodate the standard of next-gen gaming, all the PS2 classics will have trophy support, and will all be rendered in 1080p. Apart from this, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support are all also supported.

Those attending the PlayStation Experience will have access to play these games on the show floor this weekend:

Sony plans on releasing more classic PS2 titles as times goes on, and configuring them to the quality of today's gaming standards.
