A new potential name for HTC's flagship phone pops up. According to the latest report, HTC Perfume might arrive early next year.

The "M" codename has been used by HTC for their previous and current flagship smartphones, HTC One M7, One M8 and One M9. So, the tech industry would normally expect that the next flagship will be named HTC One M10.

However, rumors are now saying that the naming scheme for the next flagship smartphone will be changed, as reported by G For Games. Though details circulating online about the Taiwanese tech company's newest flagship smartphone remain unconfirmed, a report from Pocket Lint cited the possibility that it might be referred to as HTC Perfume.

Earlier rumors pointed to HTC O2. However, a tweet from @LlabTooFer claimed that it's not happening.

The new flagship will be codenamed HTC Perfume, further adding that it will run on Android 6.1 and HTC Sense 8.0. Check out the tweet below:

If HTC Perfume will get an updated Android Marshmallow, which is version 6.1, Phone Arena noted that HTC Perfume's release may happen around the second half of 2016. This is because, according to the post, the earliest feasible schedule for another Android update is expected at Google I/O, which is likely to happen until June.

Meanwhile, following HTC's release pattern, PC Mag assumed that a new HTC flagship phone might have an unveiling at Mobile World Congress event next year. Particularly, the report said that it may be on a Feb. 21, which falls on the Sunday before MWC 2016. This is usually the event where most tech manufacturers launch new devices.

Looking back at HTC smartphone's history, the HTC One M9 was launched the same day this 2015. Remarkably, Samsung Galaxy S6 was unveiled that same day, too. Does this mean that Samsung Galaxy S7 will follow suit?

As for the specs, folks from G for Games are guessing that the new HTC flagship phone will have Snapdragon 820 chipset, the rumored SoC for the alleged HTC O2. The processor will be paired with 4 GB RAM and will be packed with a 3500 mAh battery.

Since all these remain rumors, tech fans are expected to take them with a grain of salt. Meanwhile, are you curious to know more about HTC's current flagship device, the HTC One M9? Watch the review below from Android Authority:
