The season 4 finale of AMC's The Walking Dead left fans with a lot of questions. Luckily, Scott M. Gimple, series showrunner, is clarifying things so viewers are prepared for season 5.

The Walking Dead s known for fearlessly killing off characters, but Gimple says this isn't done willy nilly.

"We were fulfilling the overall stories that we had from the beginning of the season, and with those stories -- though anybody could die at any time -- it doesn't mean that they have to," Gimple said during a fan Q&A with AMC. "....In this case we had decided it really wasn't a part of the stories we were doing. If in fact every finale had death, that would be pretty predictable. We don't want people setting their watches by The Walking Dead deaths."

Gimple also continues to argue that the people of Terminus are not proven cannibals yet.

"As far as the bones go, that doesn't necessarily mean that they ate those people -- but it definitely doesn't seem like anything good happened, either," the executive producer and writer told TV Guide. "We're going to learn more about Gareth and Terminus [early next season], with answers that will come fast and furious."

Still, fans can't forget about that ominous grill.

"They have a grill, but it might have simply been a parallel to the fact that [a barbecue] was the meeting place of everybody in the prison community," Gimple explained.

Viewers are also wondering what happened to Beth Greene (Emily Kinney), who became quite popular this season.

"I will say Beth, in some state, is totally somewhere," Gimple teased. "I'll say then, that that's going to be answered next season, and I'm really excited to tell everybody the answer. It might be a little heartbreaking, it might be a little heartwarming, but it's going to be interesting."

Until then, season 5 theories abound.

"There is a deleted scene from the Season 4 Finale, which shows Rick's group confronting chained up walkers with human remains on the floor," ComicBook.com shared. "Could it be that [Terminus residents] are feeding people to walkers for some reason? Maybe the walkers are former residents of Terminus, and they are being fed humans to keep them happy and full."

Season 5 premieres in October.
