The wait is over for those who have been anticipating the new "X-Files" revival for weeks, months or even years. The show's producers recently released the first official preview for the series, which is coming back to TV in January.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show has officially released a 21-minute special via YouTube, inviting fans of the series back into the world created by Chris Carter way back in the early '90s.

This special is a behind-the-scenes type of video, featuring the stars, creators and long-time agents of the series. Featured stars speak in the clip about what the series revival means to them and the story itself.

Lead actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are featured in the special, along with Carter and many others who serve in major capacities, such as executive producers and episode directors.

Their commentary is coupled with scenes from past and future episodes, giving fans some hint of what they can expect form the series and how it expands the bigger picture in the narrative of the story moving forward.

It is especially exciting to see Carter on set with his leads, as well as the crew, as they create something really special for the fans. They have brought the series back with an expanded sense of commitment, and fans will be truly amazed at the level of devotion their darling creators have invested in the project.

Glen Morgan, who serves as a writer, director and executive producer on the series, told fans that it will feature standalone episodes that build on a new mythology, while relating back to the show's early roots.

"We knew the first and the sixth were mythology episodes and then the ones in the middle would be stand-alones that was really whatever Jim [Wong] and Darin [Morgan] and I came up with," Morgan said.
