Bryan Singer, director of the upcoming summer blockbuster film X-Men: Days of Future Past, has been accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy 15 years ago, Variety reports.

A lawsuit filed Wednesday in Hawaii federal court claims that Singer drugged and forcibly sodomized plaintiff Michael F. Egan III when he was 17 years of age. According to Egan, Singer invited the young teen actor to a party with the promise of a role in a future X-Men film. He then provided Egan with drugs and alcohol before sexually abusing him. Egan also alleges that Singer flew Egan out to Hawaii on several occasions to stay with him in a hotel.

Law documents obtained by The Wrap claim Bryan Singer "manipulated his power, wealth, and position in the entertainment industry to sexually abuse and exploit the underage Plaintiff through the use of drugs, alcohol, threats, and inducements which resulted in Plaintiff suffering catastrophic psychological and emotional injuries. Defendant Singer did so as part of a group of adult males similarly positioned in the entertainment industry that maintained and exploited boys in a sordid sex ring."

Marc Collins-Rector, former chairman of the Digital Entertainment Network, was also cited in the lawsuit. Allegedly, Collins-Rector and his associates would invite young men to parties with the intent of sexually assaulting them.

Collins-Rector is a registered sex offender after having pled guilty to committing sexual acts with minors in 2004.

Egan is being represented by sexual abuse attorney Jeff Herman. Herman represented the plaintiffs in the case against Sesame Street Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash.

"Hollywood has a problem with the sexual exploitation of children," Herman says. "This is the first of many cases I will be filing to give these victims a voice and to expose the issue."

Singer's attorney Marty Singer claims that the current allegations are "completely without merit" and that he is confident that his client will be vindicated. He also claims that the lawsuit was an attempt to get publicity, timed with the release of the Singer's new X-Men film.
