As one of the biggest stars of her generation, Selena Gomez's every move is scrutinized, every stumble captured by cameras. Now, she finds herself more in control on the many subjects attached to her famous name including ex-boyfriends, so-called rivals and her laid-back take on social media.

Talking about Gomez these days rarely concludes without mention of former flame Justin Bieber and her interview with W Magazine -- aptly entitled "Selena Gomez: Liked by Many" -- was no different.

Their relationship had its well-documented ups and downs as the pair went from a young love to a turbulent couple. It was a difficult time for Gomez who had her first broken heart under the glare of the spotlight and continues to have her name dragged into her ex-boyfriend's headlines. Although fans still hope for a renion, Gomez revealed that the relationship has run its course.

"I'm so exhausted," she admitted. "I honestly am so done. I care about his health and well-being. But I can't do it anymore."

A big part of Gomez's persona was shaped by social media, a way to reach out to her legions of fans directly. The 23-year-old had a fresh take on using her accounts as a tool to take control of her life and image.

"I'm utilizing social media right now because of my age and because, to be honest, everybody else in the world was talking about me, so I wanted a fucking say," Gomez said candidly.

The star also revealed that she's not afraid of cutting ties with her over 60 million followers on Instagram. She confided, "In a few years, I'll give all of it up."

Gomez's journey towards self-discovery was an arduous one that had several milestones including finding a new manager and challenging herself with diverse roles in films. Shedding the Disney image is rarely a smooth road -- as proven by Gomez and peers Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus.

"Every single girl has done it completely differently," Gomez said to explain her contrasting styles with Cyrus. "Obviously, she wouldn't want to be doing what I'm doing, and I wouldn't want to be doing what she's doing."

Make no mistake, the two never feuded, although they did have a crush on the same boy as 16-year-olds. Gomez was complimentary of her fellow Disney alum saying, "But I'm a fan of her music -- I don't know if she'd say that about me."

While Gomez has forged a different path from other Disney starlets, she has at least one of former teen queen on her side: BFF Taylor Swift. In fact, the two might take their friendship another step further with a collaboration.

"Oh, I don't know. I mean, eventually right?" Gomez told E! News. "She's my best friend. We'll see."
