Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is expected to be released in the offseason after having another troublesome season. And if Manziel becomes available, Michael Irvin said the Dallas Cowboys should sign the former Texas A&M standout.

Manziel, who was the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, was involved in numerous off-field incidents this season, which will likely end his tenure in Cleveland, especially after the Browns opted to fire former coach Mike Pettine and hired Hue Jackson.

While most analysts are already counting Manziel out, Irvin said that teams should give the 23-year-old another chance, admitting that he is hoping the Cowboys will sign the Texas native.

"I love the game of football and the game of football saves lives," Irvin told Dallas Morning News. "If you can get a young guy, Johnny Manziel won a Heisman Trophy at 18-19 years old. He is still growing up. I don't know why we think if a guy can throw a football it makes him the most mature person in the world."

Irvin, a five-time Pro Bowl player who helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls in his career, believes Manziel will eventually become a better player on and off the field. The 49-year-old ex-receiver added that he is willing to work with Manziel in order to help him find his niche in the league.

"I am willing to work with him on that and I hope the Cowboys do get him," Irvin added. "I know this kid has worked hard to get where he is. Let's give the kid another shot, he lands in a better spot and get around the right kind of people. Help him become a better football player and a better man."

Manziel entered rehab before the 2015 NFL season after a troublesome rookie year. The Browns had high hopes for Manziel and actually named the quarterback as their starter for their final six games of the season. However, Manziel was seen partying during a bye week, forcing the Browns coaching staff to demote him to third-string status.

Manziel eventually started for the Browns but suffered concussion. While under concussion protocol, he was spotted in a Las Vegas casino before their final game of the season, generating speculation that the Browns are done with their troublesome quarterback.

ESPN also reported on Thursday that Manziel's girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, accused the former Heisman Trophy winner of hitting her several times on Saturday. But in an interview with TMZ, Manziel denied the accusation.

"It didn't happen," Manziel said. "I'm completely stable. I'm safe and secure."
