After the unfavorable court judgment against Kesha, Demi Lovato seemed to suggest that Taylor Swift, as a self-proclaimed feminist, is not doing enough to help.

Kesha Wants to Severe Ties with Sony and Dr. Luke

Kesha, Sony and producer Luke “Dr. Luke” Gottwald are currently battling matters in court. Kesha’s lawyer argued that the singer’s career has been frozen for two years due to her exclusive recording contract with Dr. Gottwald. The 28-year-old singer also accused Dr. Luke of battery, sexual assault, verbal, physical and mental abuse, and more. According to the case filed by Kesha, the stipulations in her existing contract prohibited her from making new music and suppressed her freedom. The lawyer added that she does not want to work with Dr. Luke anymore.

Dr. Luke countered that the claims are "blatant extortion." He also filed a countersuit, stating that the allegations were fabricated just so she could exit the contract. Dr. Luke’s lawyer, Christine Lepera, said that the former wishes for Kesha to honor the contract because her current fame was all due to his efforts.

On Feb. 19, 2016, a New York judge denied Kesha’s request to be released from her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich stated that Kesha can still continue recording at Sony without the need for her to work with Gottwald. Justice Kornreich did not believe that Sony and Dr. Luke were trying to destroy Kesha’s career. She said that it is not in their best interest not to make money and promote a recording artist whom they have invested so much in. Kesha cried when the verdict was given.

Demi Lovato Throws Shade at Taylor Swift

Fans and famous friends shared their support for Kesha on social media. The #FreeKesha hashtag was also made, where supporters shared empowering words and took the chance to bash guilty parties.

Demi Lovato may be particularly targeting Taylor Swift for failing to back Kesha.

“I'm also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women's rights,” Lovato tweeted.

Lovato tweeted several times about the subject. She said that women empowerment is about speaking up for other women when it is uncomfortable and using your voice to help them be heard. It is taking action now and not only when it's convenient and leading other women to make actual changes in society. Many speculated that she is calling on Swift to show her support to a fellow female artist in distress.

Taylor Swift has yet to comment on the issue.
