On March 1, legendary rock band The Rolling Stones announced that they will be performing a free concert in Havana, Cuba.

In a post on their official website, the band revealed that they will be headed to Cuba to perform on Friday, March 25.

The concert will take place at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana arena. It will be the first open air concert in Cuba by a British rock band.

“We have performed in many special places during our long career but this show in Havana is going to be a landmark event for us, and, we hope, for all our friends in Cuba too," the band said in a statement.

The concert, called "Concert for Amity," will be filmed by production company JA Digital. Paul Dugdale will serve as director on the project, working with producers Simon Fisher and Sam Bridger.

“It’s a great honour to be working with the Rolling Stones again on this hugely exciting and historic event," said JA Digital rep Julie Jakobek.

The historic concert will follow the end of the legendary rock band's America Latina Olé 2016 tour.

The tour has included stops in major Latin American cities like Santiago, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio De Janeiro, São Paulo and Porto Alegre, Lima, Bogotá and Mexico City. The tour began on Feb. 3 and concludes on March 14 in Mexico City. The band has been promoting the various venues with a series of graphic posters on social media, each representing a different country where the group has performed.

As part of the concert, the band is also leading an initiative among musicians to donate instruments and equipment to help benefit Cuban musicians of all genres.

Since Cuba and the United States restored diplomatic relations, several musical artists have visited or performed in the Latin country. Singer Olga Tañón filmed her music video for "Vivo la Vida" in Havana, and Rihanna went to the country for a Vanity Fair photoshoot with Annie Leibovitz.
