Casting for the “Spider-Man” reboot, which stars Tom Holland, is currently underway. Recently, it was revealed that Zendaya Coleman was given a key role in the upcoming movie.

Sony and Marvel Studios are still looking for more cast members and are actively testing potential characters in the film, which is slated to release sometime in 2017.

Not a Lead Role but Vital

The actress-singer was the latest to be added to the group. Coleman was one of the actresses, who have been quietly testing for roles. She will reportedly take on a character named Michelle. It is still uncertain whether Michelle will be the romantic partner of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but it is unlikely. In the comics, Parker’s love interest was either Mary Jane or Gwen. She will not play a lead role, but her character will be vital enough to have more appearances in future “Spider-Man” installments.

Zendaya previously starred in “Shake It Up!” and “K.C. Undercover,” the Disney Channel series. Zendaya also sang at Harvey Weinstein’s pre-Oscar party to the delight of the crowd. The actress-singer is represented by CAA and Monster Talent Management.

Tom Holland will play the titular role in the film directed by Jon Watts. Holland was the first to be cast in the film and he will also be appearing in the upcoming movie “Captain America: Civil War,” where Spider-Man was featured joining other Marvel superheroes for the first time. Captain America’s third film will launch on May 6, 2016.

The Potential Plot

The script of the new “Spider-Man” movie was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Peter Parker will be shown in his high school days. Marisa Tomei is set to play Aunt May. There is not much information on the plot at the moment, but there are a number of speculations.

The next “Spider-Man” will stop retelling the original story. There might be another Marvel superhero with a cameo appearance, most likely Iron Man, paving the way to his subsequent appearance in “Civil War.” Spider-Man will not yet be an Avenger, although he may be inclined to join the super group. The web-slinger may also be facing the Sinister Six, featuring villains that have never been seen before.

The “Spider-Man” reboot is produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. The official title has yet to be announced, but the scheduled release date is on July 7, 2017. More updates and casting details are expected soon.
