Mexico and Chile face off on Wednesday in another international friendly as the two sides prepare for the Copa America Centenario this weekend.

A rematch of last year's exciting group match

Mexico and Chile faced off last summer in the Copa America 2015 in Chile in one of the most entertaining matches of the entire tournament. The two sides traded leads two times over the course of 90 minutes before settling on a 3-3 draw. The match was famous for showcasing Mexico's aerial advantage over Chile's small players with a number of goals for El Tri coming from the air.

Chile eventually went on to win the title, topping Argentina in penalties while Mexico went home humiliated after finishing fourth in a group that also included Bolivia and Ecuador. Aside from the 3-3 draw, Mexico managed a 0-0 tie with Bolivia and 2-1 defeat against Ecuador.

Mexico is the favorite head-to-head

But the situation then was bit different than it is now. Mexico also had the Gold Cup to worry about and had brought a junior side to Chile to compete. This time around, the team will be showcasing its top players and should be in a far better position to succeed.

Moreover, Mexico has the upperhand in head-to-head contests, winning 16 of 30 matches against the Chileans. Chile has managed nine victories and the two sides have drawn another five times.

Mexico has been the better side in the matchup in recent years with Chile only managing two wins in the last 12 matches dating back to 1996. The two wins came in 2010 and 2011; the first was a 1-0 win in an international friendly while the more recent one was a 2-1 victory in the Copa America. In Copa America contests, Mexico holds the edge with a record of three wins, two draws and one defeat against Chile.

Will Chicharito come closer to being Mexico's number one scorer?

The match also represents a big opportunity for Javier Hernandez to add to his goalscoring load. The Bayer Leverkusen forward has 43 goals for his national side and is just three away from tying Jared Borgetti for most goals in a Mexican jersey. He is more than capable of passing that mark when he is at his best.

Prediction

Chile and Mexico are rather evenly matched and will likely battle to an entertaining 1-1 draw.
