New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez may be planning to meet with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump just days after insisting she wouldn't be bullied into voicing her support for him.

Reps for Martinez recently revealed she hopes to soon chat with Trump, presumably in hopes of determining if the two might be able to work together for the benefit for the party.

"Governor Martinez is encouraged by Mr. Trump's commitment to protect New Mexico's labs and bases, which are not only important to our state but also our national defense," Martinez's press secretary Mike Lonergan said in an email.

Martinez Insists She's Putting State First

The statement added, "The Governor hopes to visit with Mr. Trump in the near future to discuss this issue and others that affect New Mexicans. As she has said, this has never been about her -- it's about the issues that impact New Mexico."

Meanwhile, Trump recently admitted that he would like to have the endorsement of the country's first female Hispanic governor, despite just days before ripping her over "not doing her job.

"I'd like to have it," he said. "I respect her. I have always liked her."

Trump's new-found tone and message where Martinez is concerned id in stark contrast to the stance he took against her during a recent campaign stop in her home state.

Trump as New Mexico's Governor

Back then, the boisterous and unrepentant GOP candidate blistered her as inept.

"She's got to do better," he said during his tour of Albuquerque on May 24. "Maybe I'll run for governor of New Mexico. I'll get this place going. She's not doing the job. We've got to get her moving. Come on: Let's go, governor."

Martinez has previously taken Trump to task over his hardline stance on immigration, which includes a vow to deport millions of immigrants and to build a wall along the Mexican border to further keep immigrants out.
