On the night Donald Trump is slated to officially become the face of the Republican Party, top GOP lawmakers Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are expected to take the Quicken Loans Arena stage on his behalf.

Day 2 of the Republican National Convention in downtown Cleveland is also scheduled to feature speeches from Trump's former primary rivals Chris Christie and Ben Carson.

Bumpy Opening

To a man, Republican leaders have to be hoping Day 2 goes a bit smoother than the convention's opening night, an event since dogged by allegations the candidate's wife, Melania, may have liberally borrowed from Michelle Obama's 2008 speech for her own.

Staffers for Trump have dismissed the plagiarism allegations as unfounded and insisted no one would be fired or disciplined as a result of the controversy.

Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort went as far as to chalk it all up to a dastardly ploy with Hillary Clinton at the center.

"This is once again an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, she seeks out to demean her and take her down," he said.

Tuesday night's highlight centers on Trump officially being declared the party's nominee following a roll call vote of all the delegates from each state. Later in the evening at approximately 9 p.m. ET, Trump is expected to briefly address the overflow crowd.

Pence for V.P.

"I'm going to make a case tonight that Donald Trump is ready to be president of the United States, and perhaps his opponent is not," Christie thought to be one of the finalists for the running-mate slot Trump has since tabbed Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to fill.

Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White and pro golfer Natalie Gulbis are also scheduled to take the stage to sing Trump's praises, as our children Donald Trump Jr. and Tiffany Trump.

As for Trump, the outspoken New York City real estate mogul is also scheduled to take the stage in prime-time Thursday night to formally accept the nomination.
