Former Castle star Stana Katic is returning to television, as she's set to play the lead role in the latest AXN crime thriller series "Absentia." It appears that the star is still in the negotiation stage with show producers at the moment.

Filming for the series is said to begin next year in 2017, and will premier on AXN's worldwide channels. However, the distribution will be handled in the US by Sony Pictures Television. According to Deadline, the script is originally written by Gaia Violo. Stana is reportedly playing the role of an FBI agent.

Questions arose on Stana if she could actually pull off the role, as many of her fans on social media say the "Castle" star can easily take the position on an FBI agent. Oded Ruskin, who is known for the hit Israeli series "False Flag," is reportedly directing all ten episodes of the series.

AXN has always captured its audience with crime and thriller - Absentia will be the perfect blend for both. Together with Stana as an FBI agent, the series is already expected to be a massive hit.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that Absentia will have writer Matt Cirulnick as its executive producer. Stana has being playing the role of Kate Beckett the detective for eight seasons in "Castle." This FBI role will certainly make for an appropriate return to the small screen.

Stana had won three peoples' choice awards for her role as detective Kate Beckett, and a special screening was organized at the Mill Valley Festival for her most recent feature "The Rendezvous." Stana, represented by Gersh and Principal Entertainment, also produces through her own company.

The Castle star is all set to go forward and take up the challenging role as an FBI agent, and with all the support from her fans, the star is sure to do a go job.
