Halo fans have something to look for in 2015, and Microsoft is hoping those who haven't bought the new Xbox One will be persuaded by Master Chief to get one. "Halo 5: Guardians" will be coming to the Xbox One in the fall of 2015, and it's not just a video game.

The last time a Halo first-person shooter graced the screens of Xbox users was Halo 4, released nearly two years ago on Xbox 360. According to Xbox Wire, the new installment, Halo 5: Guardians, will pick up with Master Chief after the events of Halo 4 and will be bigger in "content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand new and more powerful engine."

The new Halo game, produced by Halo 4's 343 Industries, has been built "from the ground up" for Xbox One, and while incorporating some aspects of Halo 4, the launch will also include an expanded look at the Halo universe with the Steven Spielberg-produced Halo television series.

Microsoft and 343 Industries are of course revealing very few specifics about either the video game or TV series -- other than the fact that it will run at 60 frames per second and will be apportioned dedicated servers, presumably for multiplayer -- but you should expect even more emphasis on narrative aspects of the series, which 343 Industries began introducing more heavily with its first take on the series after taking the helm from the creator of the first Halo trilogy, Bungie.

"Anytime you transition to a new platform it gives you an opportunity to kind of take a step back and take a broader perspective, almost like a blank canvass," said 343 Industries' Bonnie Ross at a press event this week, according to the L.A. Times. "At 343, when we're thinking about Xbox One, we're thinking about what stories we want to tell, how do we want to tell those stories and how do we use the 'Halo' experience to push the platform forward."

Halo 4 left off (Spoilers!) with Master Chief apparently all alone, having lost his best sentient AI friend Cortana in the game's epic melee. And Ross played up the dramatic possibilities in Halo 5 for developing the character arc of the ubiquitous Halo hero. "Master Chief lost his best friend, and he's in a very different, challenging place. He's questioning everything. He's questioning his past, his purpose, what he's fighting for, why he's fighting ... As we look on Xbox One, we wanted to be very deliberate with the story we told with Chief. This is about his journey -- it's about his past and it's about his future."

More details will be revealed at the Xbox E3 media briefing in early June. We'll be there, so stay tuned for more Halo 5 news to come.
