2K Sports has confirmed that the new NBA 2K14 video game will  be making its way to next-generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

According to IGN, 2K Sports Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Jason Argent confirmed the much-awaited video game will released on Sony and Microsoft's new gaming consoles.

"We will [be announcing] day and date launch titles for both of those platforms," Argent told the gaming news website.

While this is good news for most gamers waiting to get their hands on the PS4 and Xbox One, the statement also reveals that the title won't be out for these new consoles on October 1 -- the release date announced for NBA 2K14. The consoles will be released later this year, around November or December.

So what can we expect from the game designed for the new consoles? The 2K Sports VP says they're adding distinct features solely for the PS4 and Xbox One.

"Both current gen and next-gen will be unique, distinct, and independent from each other."

2K Sports has also confirmed that they wouldn't be releasing the game on the new Wii.

"We are not doing a Wii U version this year," Argent told the website. "We decided internally that resources were best put towards building a current-gen and next-gen game."

The NBA 2K14 for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and Pc will be released in stores Oct. 2, 2013.
