Early reports have claimed that Jessica Chastain was offered a female lead role by HBO in "True Detective's" Season 2. However, Chastain has said that she is not included in the cast. She admitted to being a fan of "True Detective" as well as being particularly amazed with the performances of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. However, Chastain said "I'm going to watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first."

Nic Pizzolatto, creator of "True Detective," had announced that there would be a female lead on season 2. He elaborated that the new season will feature strong men and women and the secret occult history of the transportation in the U.S. However, instead of having two men playing the leads again, it would now be a male and female for season 2. This is probably where the rumor of Chastain playing a female lead role in the television series started.

The actress starred in "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby," an entry to the Cannes Film Festival. Chastain got two nominations for the Oscar with her movies "The Help" and "Zero Dark Thirty." In both movies, Chastain portrayed the role of a strong confident woman in a world dominated by men. She also had a part in "Lawless" by John Hillcoat and "Mama," a horror film by Andres Muschietti.

Season 2 will not have Harrelson and McConaughey, who played the role of the first true detectives. Brad Pitt was offered to play the main character. No confirmation was received from Pitt's contingent. It was rumored that Pitt is still making adjustments to his calendar. It remains to be seen who can replace Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. "True Detective" Season 2 will continue the story of the two detectives with a more exciting storyline and a new cast.

Does anyone have a guess as to who will play the female lead in Season 2 of "True Detective?"
