Based on compiled employee ratings by the United States job site Glassdoor, wholesale retailer Costco and tech giants Facebook and Google provide the best pay and benefit packages in the country. Costco offers generous social benefits, making the company stand out from other businesses, while among the top five, four are high-tech firms, based on the survey.

Topping the list was Google, where a software engineer could earn an average base salary of as much as $119,000 annually. The company also gives its employees free access to a health gym, billiards and other recreational activities, a laundromat, and pet boarding. However, a former employee of eight years revealed that he has never met anyone working at Google who took time off on vacations or weekends.

Placing second is Costco. Facebook enjoys the third spot, while Adobe takes the fourth, and Epic systems places fifth. Other notable companies placing in the survey are Microsoft at the 18th spot and eBay at the 25th position. The survey further reveals that Facebook tops other companies for their internal career opportunities, while Google is the best for its ideal work and life balance.

The survey by Glassdoor listed the top 25 companies with compensation and benefits as the main factors. Money is not the only factor considered in determining a company's performance in the survey but other factors and perks are considered as well, such as free meals and being offered stock options, among others. Data had been gathered anonymously from each company's employees. CEOs of the ranking companies also enjoy positive approval from their employees, such as Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella who got 83 percent and Google's Larry Page with 95 percent. On the other hand, Amazon and Apple did not make it to the top 25 because many of their employees work at warehouses or retail stores. Many big companies did not make it to the list because of lack of comments and other data from the surveys, according to MarketBusinessNews.
