Intel proudly announced the new XMM 7650 wireless modem which has gigabit download speeds. And to further explain the speed of the new modem, the tech giant boasts that it can download an HD movie in just 8 seconds. The Intel XMM 7650 will butt heads with Qualcomm's new X16 which also boasts lightning-fast speeds.

Digital Trends described it as a battle of the wireless modems. Qualcomm was the first to announce the X16 which can reach speeds up to 1.5Gbps. Intel XMM 7650 can go as fast as 1Gbpm for download speeds and 225Mbps for upload speeds and is known to support multiple cellular network technologies like GSM, CDMA and LTE.

The Intel XMM 7650 is a part of a category known as 16/13 modem and it can work with networks that use carrier aggregation which can reduce congestion using different LTE frequencies and other configurations. The modem's download speed is slightly slower than Qualcomm's but it can download an HD movie in 8 seconds and music file with 10GB in less than two minutes.

Meanwhile, with Intel XMM 7650 modem's support for CDMA, the wireless modem may be used with the latest iPhone models, Gadgets 360 reported. Qualcomm used to support Apple but things are not going well between the two companies with Apple suing the tech company in China. At present Apple's iPhone 7 models that are sold under carrier AT&T and T-Mobile are already compatible with Intel modems but have no CDMA support.

Apple has been using Qualcomm modems on iPhones on Verizon and Sprint because of CDMA support. It is therefore likely that all the iPhone models released this year will go with the standard Intel modem. The Intel XMM 760 is a direct competitor of Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 which also boasts of super-fast gigabit LTE speeds.
