"The Equalizer" featuring Denzel Washington is coming to the big screen on Sept. 26 of this year. Adapted from the TV series with the same title, the film was originally set for release in April. However, Sony postponed the filming when Russell Crowe and Paul Haggis dropped out of the project. Filming was restarted when Denzel Washington was tapped to play the lead character. Sony assigned Nicholas Winding Refn of "Drive" and Rupert Wyatt of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" to direct the movie. Both later dropped out and the project was reassigned to Antoine Fuqua of "Olympus Has Fallen" with script being written by Richard Wenk.

"The Equalizer" was allotted a $50 million budget that included the $20 million talent fee of Denzel Washington. A high-budget film, Sony executives are hoping for the film's success at the box office, which is likely to happen anyway. The past four movies by Denzel Washington performed well in the US with gross earnings ranging from $80 to $130 million, a figure which does not include worldwide earnings.

Washington plays the role of McCall, an ex-black ops commando, who in order to live peacefully in Boston has falsified his own death. However, when he saves a young girl Teri, played by Chloe Grace Moretz, he runs into mega-sadistic thugs from Russia. This experience rekindles his yearning for righteousness and to fight for oppressed individuals. McCall then becomes a hero to anyone who is faced with brutality.

With such a plot, we definitely can expect a lot of explicit violence from Denzel Washington in the film. The TV series "The Equalizer" was shown from 1985 to 1989 on CBS with Edward Woodward playing the lead role. Aside from Denzel Washington as John McCall, the other cast of the movie includes Chloë Grace as Teri, Dan Bilzerian, Melissa Leo, Marton Csokas, Haley Bennett, Bill Pullman, Robert Wahlberg, Vladimir Kulich, Johnny Messner and a whole lot more.
